I have a problem because i have done everything but after i reboot my ipod i does not show cydia or installer. Also it doesnt show the custom boot logo. WHY is that and can anybody help me??? Please

Hi,

If the custom logo is not showing up, you are not applying the custom firmware correctly. Are you sure you followed the tutorial properly?

Using the steps but can't procide as I can't seem to locate the
iPod2,1_2.2.1_5H11a_Restore.ipsw file on the computer. I downloaded firmware from link, but get zip file
iPod2,1_2.2.1_5H11a_Restore.zip.

Even unzipped th efile, but still no *.ipsw file to be found.

I'm running Windows XP with a 2G iPod with fw 2.2.1.

any advise??

JL,

The link above points directly to the IPSW file. You do not need to extract it. Just apply the downloaded file in QuickFreedom directly.

Thanks.......thought I was on my way, however the issue I have is I use the browse button to apply it. by using the browse button, the OPEN dialgue box is looking for "Apple IPod firmware update file". The extension of the downloaded
iPod2,1_2.2.1_5H11a_Restore file is donwloading as a ZIP file.
So I cut and pasted the file name in the file name dialogue box. However, I end up with a file error getting a "can not copy file: can not read from source file or disk". Can you assist further? Thanks

JL,

The link to the file (as in the blog post too) is http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-5863.20090127.rt56K/iPod2,1_2.2.1_5H11a_Restore.ipsw.

As you can see from the URL, that's the IPSW format and not a ZIP archive. My guess is that you have some utility installed on your computer that is causing the file to come up as a ZIP.

Firstly, try to rename the file to end with the .IPSW extension and see if you can apply it. If you cannot, you will have to download the file again but make sure you do not have any download utility (or maybe something else) that will cause the same problem again.

To be on the safe side, just copy and paste the link in your browser and see what extension comes up when you download it again.

done...........the issue was to stop windows from forcing the download file to be a ZIP file.

For other you need to:
make XP leave zip files alone by going to the RUN command and typing:
regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll

here is the referenced site:
http://www.petri.co.il/disable_native_zip_support_in_windows_xp.html

thanks for all your assistance...just need to work on adding the apps back in.

Sorry dude, but this is for the 2G only, as I do not own a 3G. Try looking it up on Google, there should be a few guides lying around.
